Where do you want to teach today?
Nottingham British School is a newly built and rather large school situated in the State of Kuwait that offers something different than all of the other schools in the area- the New English Primary Curriculum. It boasts excellent facilities that are unseen in most other schools in Kuwait, interactive whiteboards in each of its large classrooms, an expansive outdoor play area, an indoor swimming pool, an auditorium (which is set to be opened in early 2016) and is currently developing a learning support service for pupils with additional educational needs- including an intervention team and a school counsellor.
The school opened in September 2015 and truly is unique to other schools in the local area as the majority of the teaching staff here are from western countries, including Britain, Canada, Australia and the US. Our goal is to deliver an education system that is comparable to that of the UK, whereby pupils are taught through contextual, relevant and interactive learning opportunities, based upon transferable skills and a progressive approach to developing subject knowledge.
The curriculum is split into 80% National Curriculum and 20% Kuwaiti Syllabus for Arabic and Islamic Studies, the latter delivered by ministry approved specialist teachers from the local area. The class teachers’ timetable comprises of English, Maths, History and Geography (Topic in EYFS) and Science. Music, Art, PE and ICT are all taught by English speaking specialist teachers. We currently have approximately 500 pupils enrolled at NBS and have a long waiting list of pupils who have applied to join.
We are lucky enough to have the capacity to expand immediately, once we have recruited more teachers. We also have a secondary school building, which is planned to be opened in September 2016.
We are currently recruiting class teachers across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, learning support practitioners and specialist teachers. There may also be future opportunities for career development, where applicable. Employment package: A contract from early January 2016 to mid-June 2016 or September 2016 to June 2017, additional summer holiday pay pro rata, a return flight from your current country of residence, shared or single accommodation and travel to and from school. Competitive tax free salaries based upon qualifications, training and experience.
Kuwait is a fairly moderate Islamic country that is host to a range of people from all over the world. It has some wonderful malls that offer high quality designer outlets and excellent world cuisine, beautiful beach resorts and excursions to historical sites. It is situated in an ideal position for travelling and exploring many other parts of the world, relatively inexpensively- Dubai, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Oman, North Africa and Asia being the closest places. It is a great place for those who are interested in intercultural understanding, language and new exciting experiences. It is a nice balance of traditional Arabic culture and the western world, in comparison to many other surrounding countries that are very traditional or excessively westernised.
